T. 21. IV. 3 – 6. Jesus: “What if you looked within and saw no sin? This ‘fearful’ question is one the ego never asks!
And you who do ask it are now threatening the ego’s whole defensive system. And this is much too serious a threat for it to any longer pretend it is your friend! Anyone who has truly joined with another in a holy relationship has detached themselves the belief in the ego as their identity.
A holy relationship is one in which you join in your awareness with another, one who is already joined with you in truth. And so your belief in ‘sin’ has been already shaken by the awareness that you are not separate or alone. Now you are no longer entirely un-willing to look within and thereby see that the sin you thought was there is not!
Yet your liberation still is only partial; still limited and incomplete, though born within you. Not wholly mad now, you have been willing to look on much of your insanity and recognize it as madness. Your faith is moving inward, past insanity and on to reason. And what your reason tells you now, the ego would not hear!
The Holy Spirit’s purpose has been accepted by the part of your mind the ego knows not of. No more did you until now! And yet this part of mind, with which you now identify, is not afraid to look upon mind itself. This reasoning mind knows no sin! How, otherwise, could it have been willing to see the Holy Spirit’s purpose as its own?
This part has seen your brother truly, and recognized him perfectly since time began. And it has desired nothing but to join with him and to be free again, as once it was. It has been waiting for the birth of freedom; the acceptance of release to come to you. And now you recognize that it was not the ego that joined with the Holy Spirit’s purpose, and so there must be something else in you. Let not the ego make you think that this is madness!
It is your reason now that makes the choice for freedom, and it follows perfectly from what you have already learned from this course! There is no inconsistency in what the Holy Spirit teaches. This is the reasoning of the sane. You have at last perceived the ego’s madness, and because you did not choose to share in it, you have not been made afraid!”
