Ch. 15. VII. 10 – 13. Jesus: “All anger is nothing more than an attempt to make someone feel guilty, and this attempt is the only basis the ego accepts for its special relationships. Guilt is what the ego feeds upon, and in fact, the only need the ego has. Therefore, as long as you identify with the ego, guilt will still attract you!
Yet remember this: Merely to be with another body in a special relationship is not communication! And if you think it is, you will feel guilty and be afraid of communication, which is truly sharing. And you will be afraid to listen for and hear the Holy Spirit, shared by all the Sonship, and recognize in His Voice your own need to communicate.
The Holy Spirit cannot teach you through a ‘protective coat’ of fear! And how can even He communicate with you, while you believe that to communicate through Him, not the body, is to make yourself ‘lonely?’ It is clearly insane to believe that by truly communicating, you will be abandoned. And yet many do believe it. For they think their minds must remain unshared and kept private or they will ‘lose themselves,’ whereas if their bodies are together ‘their minds remain their own.’ The union of bodies thus becomes the way in which they would keep minds apart. For bodies cannot forgive, thereby undoing separation! Bodies can only do as the mind directs.
The illusion of the autonomy of the body and its ability to overcome loneliness by ‘getting together’ with other bodies, is but the working of the ego’s plan to establish its own autonomy. As long as you believe that to be with a body is joining, you will be compelled to attempt to keep your brother in his body, perceiving him only as a body, and held there in separation from you, by guilt! And you will then inevitably see safety in guilt and danger in sharing real communication. For the ego will always teach that your loneliness, the effect of separation, is solved through guilt, a further effect of separation! Then you think that real communication, joining on the level of mind, must be the cause of your loneliness. Despite the self-evident insanity of this lesson, many have learned it!
Real communication lies in forgiveness and the holy instant, just as surely as damnation lies in guilt. It is the Holy Spirit’s teaching function to instruct those who believe communication to be damnation, that real communication is their salvation. And He will do so, for the power of God in Him and you is joined in a real relationship so holy and so strong that it can overcome even this without fear.”
