Dear Members and Friends of RMMC:
The Annual Meeting and Dinner for Members of the Center was held November 5th at 6 PM with the Annual Election of Trustees to serve on the Board for the ensuing year. Each year three of the six Trustee positions are up for election. Elected or re-elected to the Board were Francis Buckingham, Robert M. Bennett and Maureen Ewell. Continuing until the 2017 Annual Meeting are Anna Kujawa, Tanya Zappia and myself, Ron Grow. Each year after the Election, the Trustees decide among themselves who will serve the functions of President (me this time,) Vice President (Francis,) Secretary (Bob,) Treasurer (Maureen) and Members at Large (Tanya and Anna.) Our monthly Board meetings are the third Tuesday of the month at 7 PM. We are always open to suggestions for improvements to the Center’s program and facilities. Contact information is on the website and posted in the lobby.
There are numerous activities conducted under the same roof at 1939 S. Monroe St. Some meetings are conducted by those renting space and some are by the Center itself. Some are Course-related, some not. At the discretion of the leader, the Course itself may be used, and/or any of a thousand other books, CDs, DVDs, pictures, diagrams, etc. Remember, ACIM itself states that it is “but one of many versions of a universal course.” It is A Course in Miracles, not The Course in Miracles! Three times in the Course it identifies the ego thought system as a doctrine, a closed thought system, fixed and stagnant, imposing rules, boundaries and restrictions for its own self-preservation.
The Course is not a doctrine! It is explicitly a method for undoing the ego’s doctrine of separation, removing all such blocks to our awareness of love and our true higher nature. The Manual for Teachers contains no “standard teaching model” for any sort of classes. The main form of “teaching” it advocates is “one-on-one,” and the main teaching method is stated as demonstration!
From our By-Laws: “The purpose of the Corporation is to operate and conduct, solely for religious purposes, a religious organization to foster spiritual awakening through forgiveness. Our functions as a non-profit organization include the study and application of A Course in Miracles as our principal activity. In addition, we seek to discover spiritual truth, promote right thinking and holy relationships.” – Articles of Incorporation, (as amended) October 16, 2010.
Any concerns or complaints about the content or materials used in a class or study group should be respectfully taken up with the study group leader or presenter. These are not matters of concern for the Board or the Board President. (This applies as well to presenters’ observations about other presenters’ supporting materials and methods.) If such a complaint is brought to me, I will listen, smile, stare at the bridge of your nose and offer you a hug!
My personal thanks and appreciation to all who who have helped with the Center. We are blessed!
