Dear Members and Friends:
“A Course in Miracles is much broader, richer and deeper than many Course students, and even teachers, yet realize.” – Ken Wapnick
People unfamiliar with the contents of the Course often ask why it takes 1300 pages, which in the end boils down to two words, “God is!” Why not just believe that, say “Amen,” and let the rest go? Trouble is, as the author states early on, “Words are but symbols of symbols, twice removed from reality.” To say “God is,” and hold onto an entire belief system of what one thinks that means, may actually be blocking the way to your experience, the basis of real faith, and ultimately to knowing your reality, both of which lie beyond all words and symbols.
I am reminded of this in my daily homework as I begin working once again through Psychotherapy, Purpose, Process and Practice. (The excerpts which result are the ones I share with some of you by email. Samples are on the RMMC website under “Reflections.”) The two “pamphlets,” as Psychotherapy: Purpose, Process and Practice and The Song of Prayer: Prayer, Forgiveness, Healing are sometimes referred to, are often overlooked or thought of only as “addenda,” merely incidental to the Course. On the covers though, both are clearly labeled otherwise, each being “An Extension of the Principles of A Course in Miracles.” That sounds more like Text material to me!
The Board once again is committed to having a complete and current Calendar on the website with the able assistance of Bruce Rawles, our Webmaster. For the Center’s own activities, tap on RMMC Calendar in the right-hand sidebar column. A second calendar is for renters of meeting space at the Center. Looking at the very top menu bar, go across to Contact, scroll down to Rental Calendar and Information and tap on that. You might want to keep either or both calendar addresses in your device’s memory. Please report any needed changes to Maureen Ewell. Jim Godfrey (Member at Large on the Board) jpgodfrey@juno.com, is currently our co-ordinator of meeting space rentals at the Center. Bob Bennett, bobberamy@gmail.com, is Secretary. Maureen is Treasurer with help from Liisa Morrissey, liisadavid@msn.com, officially Vice-President. Bud Ham, bud.budham@gmail.com, is also Member at Large. I am Board President, handyman, and head of the Building Committee. (One of these days I’ll learn how to set the thermostat!) That’s rongrow@rocketmail.com. or 303-697-6088.
The Center has time and space for several new classes or other Course-related activities. I keep hearing rumors! Getting something going is easy. Come on! Make the commitment. Do it! I’ll help! The Board will approve anything that looks like it might be helpful.
Room for rent? Extra space in your home? Need a roommate? A long-time Course student, Lydia Hunter, has moved to Victoria B.C. but has to wait a while for Residency status in Canada. In the meantime, she will need to be back in this area for at least six months beginning in August. She has arranged for accommodations through November but she would like to line something up for December through March of 2019. She is a retired nurse and willing to be helpful wherever she resides. Needless to say, she would prefer a Course-friendly environment. I will forward your e-mail address and/or phone number to her. Contact me.
