Ch. 13. I. 9 – 11. Jesus: “Accepting the Atonement for yourself teaches you what immortality is, for by accepting your guiltlessness you learn that the past has never been, and so the future is needless and will not be. The future, in time, is always associated with expiation, and only guilt from ‘sin’ could induce the sense of a need for expiation, or ‘redemption from sin’
Accepting the guiltlessness of the Son of God as your own guiltlessness is therefore God’s way of reminding you of His Son, and what he is in truth, and what you are! For God has never condemned His Son, and being guiltless, the Son is eternal.
You cannot dispel guilt by accepting it, ‘making it real,’ and then ‘atoning for it,’ as has been taught before. That is the ego’s plan, which it offers instead of dispelling the guilt as the Holy Spirit does, by simply recognizing that it cannot be. The ego believes in ‘atonement through attack,’ being fully committed to the insane notion that attack is salvation!
As long as you cherish the idea of guilt, you must believe in attack as well. For how else but by identifying with the ego could you hold dear a belief in what you cannot sanely want?
Basically, the ego has taught you to attack yourself because you are guilty of attacking God by separating from Him. And this attack then increases the guilt, for guilt is always the result of any attack. In the ego’s teaching, then, there is no escape from guilt. For attack makes guilt real to you, and if it is real, there is no way to overcome it. The Holy Spirit dispels guilt simply through the calm recognition that, in reality, it has never been.
As the Holy Spirit looks upon the guiltless Son of God, He knows that this is true. And therefore being true for you, you cannot really attack yourself, for without guilt, attack is impossible. You, then, are saved because God’s Son is guiltless. And being wholly pure, you are also invulnerable.”
